The reality of being a Year 11 and 12 teacher is giving your students adequate preparation for their exams and final tests. Whether the assessment is internally or externally marked a senior teacher always includes assessment preparation.

As senior teachers, we strive to find a balance between delivering engaging subject content and coaching our students to answer test questions and tasks in ways that we know are required. Whether we agree with the notion of coaching our students to deliver answers that we know are “correct” or encouraging our students to think beyond the expected, the discussion becomes futile when the realities of national scores and ranking are abound.

Some key factors to consider when preparing our students is the authenticity of the practise exams and questions we set and the appropriate replication of time constraints and permitted resources e.g., formula sheets, dictionaries. Neap already provides a number of resources that supports our teaching network and assists with exam preparation. Just as adequate preparation for examinable content is important it is also important that we replicate the exam process in terms of instruction. We want our students to be familiar with the necessary instructions before they hear them on testing day. Neap has produced an original FREE transcript for teachers to use when they are coaching their students in exam preparation. The transcript can be downloaded from our website here. We hope that you find it a useful tool and that it takes some of the small administrative tasks off your hands.
